The standardization in the information they provide supports scientifically-based decision making. ISO 14025, ISO 21930, and the amended EN15804 standard (EN15804&A2:2019) provide the rules for reporting information in EPDs.

An EPD provides information organized in modules. This information pertains to:

  • inventory indicators describing resource use, waste categories, and output flows
  • information on biogenic carbon content
  • life cycle impact assessment indicators

The ecoinvent version 3 database offers the "Allocation, cut-off, EN15804" system model, dedicated to support the needs of EPD practitioners. Read more here about the "Allocation, cut-off, EN15804" system model and how it supports EPD creation.
